Bookstores have taken a big hit in the past several years, but the good news is folks still like to read books and love the discovery experience a bookstore provides. I’ve had the pleasure of discovering bookstores while promoting my Walk Through England mysteries. Recently I appeared at Book Carnival, a bookstore in Orange, California (south of Los Angeles) devoted to mystery and suspense.
The store is a dream project for owner Anne Sailer, a mystery buff who launched the store in her retirement. She hosts regular appearances by top mystery authors—besides myself, this month she’s welcomed authors such as John McMahon, Kemper Donovan, Rob Olser, Georgia Jeffries and Thomas Perry. In addition, she hosts Saturday Sleuths, an in-person book club.
